Ever since the shooting metal health as been a serious issue that is being targeted today (along with gun laws).
America tends to look more at the obesity the plagues us along with other serious physical aliments. What people don't understand is how serious mental illness can affects everyone such as the elementary school shooting. How we handle bullying, anxiety, depression and other such disorders and illness is greatly affected.
It has been estimated that 20 million people that have needed substance abuse help have not received it and millions more of people who are depressed or other things don't receive it or needs are not met. Which can lead to down hill spirals.
America insists that if we give people the tools to help themselves and arm ourselves with knowledge that violence and suicides and other traumatic events will decrease. We still can't force people to accept them. We may order them to treatment and minors are required if forced by parents but they won't accept it, its their right to accept or not to. Also not everyone insurance covers mental illnesses, how will they be able to get help if they can't afford it? Just a theory.
